How to wear a bandage skirt

By

Bandage skirts are quite the trend these days. These body hugging mini skirts can be seen everywhere! From classic black styles to loud, neon colors, these skirts seem to be flexible enough for all occasions. What's interesting about these skirts is that they were quite a hit in the past! These pieces of clothing first emerged during the 60's (well, according to my mother when she saw me in a mustard yellow bandage skirt) and portrayed a very sexy and confident image of a woman.

Though these skirts were usually worn at night during parties, they prove to be quite versatile today, and here are few examples on how to rock this attention-grabbing garment.

Comfortable and Casual

For a more laid-back look, just pair your skirt with, well, anything casual! From your favorite graphic t-shirt, a long and loose flowing top, or even combat boots, the contrast of dressed up and dressed down can actually complement each other. One great example is Ashley Olsen. She looks comfortably chic in her ensemble that consists of a loose, white top, flats, a leather jacket, and sunglasses. Want a more polished look? Why not tuck in a slightly flowing top! Another suggestion is to wear the skirts in really bright colors or interesting patterns to stand out! This look is quite easy to do, just throw in a few accessories, maybe a fedora and you are good to go!

Girls Night Out

For a more dressed up or night time look, choose more fitted and formal tops, dark leggings, and high heels. Adding a jacket or cover up and jewelry will also give your outfit a nice touch. The tip here is to not over do the sexy. The skirt already gives the sexy element, so remember to keep the rest of your look sleek and sophisticated. Some great examples are Lauren Conrad and Rihanna, as they successfully pulled off a clean, night out look with their bandage skirts.

Power Dressing

A tight, mini skirt in the office? Seriously? But yes, you can actually wear these and make it work appropriate. The key here is keep it clean and classy. Wear this skirt with a white, button down shirt, simple black pumps, and maybe a few pearls and you are office ready! Just remember to pick classic cuts and colors. That means that no matter how much you love your neon green bandage skirt, that garment should be saved for a different occasion-not at work! An additional tip: if you find your skirt too short, wear it with solid, black leggings- without the crazy prints!

Nicely written and some really good pictures. I hate to point out there aren't a lot of people who can wear such a tight fitting garment (I know I'm showing my age) but you did a good job of updating us on the bandage skirt.

Thanks for the comment! And I didn't really think about that. But now that got me thinking, maybe I should write about clothes for different body types and age groups! :)
