Power dressing 101
76
It's now 2011, a new year for many of us to try, attempt, and succeed in things. As a college junior, one of the new things that is constantly in my mind is the fact that my life as a student is ending and my life as someone successful in my career choice is only beginning. Like many other college students and fresh grads, it can't be helped I will worry about my resume, job interview, and many other factors that can make or break this opportunity that I will want so bad. However, individuals tend to forget one important aspect that actually has a big impact when getting a job: one's appearance. Yes, we all know how one looks will not be a true reflection of one's abilities or work ethics, but dressing up and looking the part shows that one is really serious about this, and is prepared to commit to the job. Also, first impressions really do stick. Psychology has shown various tests wherein first impressions really do influence how a person will be willing to view and treat another individual. So, with these in mind, here are a few quick tips to help you dress to impress and land that dream job!
1. Research
When applying for a job, you obviously know what kind of job it is and what this company or institution will expect from you right? Then take your fashion hint from there. If you are applying in a company that is in the corporate or business world, then the right way to go is to power dress. Closed leather shoes, suits, neckties, you get the idea. What if you are applying to a preschool as a teacher? Obviously wearing a three-piece suit isn't necessary. The key here is to research on what kind of people that certain job needs.
2. Neatness and cleanliness
No matter what kind of job you are applying to, whether it is in a professional atmosphere or something very laid-back and casual, being neat and clean always will give you plus points.
3. Comfort
Yes, you may look good in those pumps, and that suit may be a size too small but it makes you look slimmer, but if it isn't comfortable, it is going to show. Looking good is important, but being comfortable is even more important.
4. Dressing for success does not mean to be boring
A well tailored jacket, a bright colored top, a chunky necklace, or clothes with interesting details such as ruffles. There are so many fashionable pieces that you can put together to show your personality, and yet, still look professional.
5. Confidence.
Stand tall and smile. Confidence is non-negotiable.
So there you have it, 5 tips to hopefully help you get that job and leave a good impression at the same time. Good luck!

It looks like you have a natural eye for sharp, smart fashion. Interesting topic and I enjoyed reading your article. I have always said that looking savvy and smart isn't all that hard and it shouldn't cost the earth either.
Nice hub!
Hi, georgie, GREAT hub presented with such professionalism. I loved it. I would love for my oldest granddaughter to read this. She has a photographic memory and I'd love for her to remember the things you say in this hub about how to dress for success--when she enters the workforce. Nice touch, Georgie. And I am a fan. And follower. Sincerely, Kenneth Avery, from a rural town in northwest Alabama, Hamilton, a town that reminds one of Andy and Barney's Mayberry.
Power dressing is a lot sexier than probably most people think. Usually with the clean lines that most of the peices have in a power wardrobe...you can add not little abstract additions here and there to make it standout unique. I love the peices you've displayed here.
