Ready to be Healthy?: Low Calorie Snack Ideas
63It's almost Christmas, and with the holidays come the 4 Fs. Family, Friends, Fun, and Food. I don't know about you guys but whenever I celebrate Christmas, I really gain a lot of weight. So what I usually do is that I really try to stay healthy before I am bombarded with plates full of delicious, yet somewhat deadly food during the holidays.
If you want to lose the fat, live healthy, or, like me, want to eat healthy as to not feel guilty during Christmas, here are a few low calorie snack ideas I have gathered from friends, family, cook books, and random adventures in my kitchen.
1. Mango Salsa
Ingredients: 2 mangoes (diced and peeled), 2 tbsp lime juice, 1 chopped jalapeño pepper (size depending on how spicy you want it), 1/4 cup chopped onions (red), and a pinch of salt and pepper.
Directions: Combine all ingredients in a bowl and tah-dah! A great snack or side dish!
Random fact: contains approximately 30 calories per serving! (and this recipe is good for 10-12 servings)
2. Low fat banana fritters
Ingredients: Cooking banana, lumpia wrappers, 1 tsp Splenda/ low calorie sweetener (optional)
Directions: Slice bananas into 2 (lengthwise) and if you want, mix with Splenda. Then, wrap the banana slices using the wrapper, and then fry until the wrapper turns into a golden brown color. Then, enjoy!
Random fact: approximately 80 calories, and a good breakfast dish too! And it is quite filling
3. Grilled cheese and tomato sandwhich
Ingredients: Wheat bread slices, low fat cheese slices, 1/2 tomato (sliced or chopped)
Directions: Put cheese and tomato in between the bread slices and have it grilled or toasted. A very filling snack or lunch to go!
4. Egg salad
Ingredients: 4 hard boiled eggs, 1/2 cup red onions (chopped), and 1/2 cup tomato (chopped), a drizzle of olive oil for dressing
Directions: Slice eggs. Out of the 4 eggs, you should remove the yolk of 3 eggs. Chop all the eggs into small squares. Mix all the ingredients into a bowl and enjoy your healthy snack~
5. Omelettes
Ingredients: 2 eggs, tomato/mushrooms/whatever you want to put in it, 1 tsp milk, a pinch of salt and pepper
Directions: Whisk eggs in a bowl until even or uniform. Then, add the milk, salt, and pepper. Pour the mixture on a frying pan (note: pan must have a bit of oil and is hot) and fry the omelette. When the omelette is half cooked, add the other ingredients (mushrooms, etc) on one side of the omelette, the fold the other half of the omelette over it (like a crescent shape). Continue frying, don't forget to flip it over once in a while to cook all sides!
So here are a few ideas on what to eat when one has the munchies but does not want to gain weight. These recipes are quick and easy to make, and doesn't require a lot of materials! Hope this helped and if you guys have any ideas, feel free to share!
